Review — Conair More Big Curls Volume Hot Rollers

Going impulse shopping is something that I’ve mastered.  There’s almost nothing that can talk me out of shopping for something that I want right at that moment.  Today’s buy is something I’ve bought before except it was an earlier version.  I owned some hot rollers back in the day, but I threw them out when I moved out of my college dorm.  I chose to buy another set because 1. they were on sale (19.99 is a steal!) and 2. I’m trying to avoid using my curling iron.  I don’t need any time of harsh heat on my hair while I’m trying to grow it out.

This set comes with twelve jumbo rollers… the diameter is 1 1/2 inches allowing for loose voluminous curls or waves.  The base that the rollers come in allow them to heat up without reaching a high temperature.  When you apply the rollers, your hair will be against a velvety smooth surface that prevents frizzy tresses.  The heat isn’t too much for you to bear, obviously if it was there wouldn’t be such a product.  It’s supposed to set curls in five minutes but I’m going to leave mine in for about 30.

I also put just a tad of IC Frizz Buster into my hair before setting the rollers.  This will allow for some shine and a little thermal protection.  My hair was flatironed a week and a half before doing this style, and because I work outside my straight hair suffered tragic humidity damage :D .

Now it’s time to get real.  When I took the rollers out, I only had big waves with a slight bump at the ends… nothing special… I tried to work with it but the curls combed right out of my hair, literally.  They didn’t even last a minute.  It made my hair look voluminous at first, but throughout the day it just looked puffy.

Take a look at the results:

And lets rate this product overall:

Price: 5/5

Appearance: 5/5

Did the product live up to it’s name: 1/5

So, in a nutshell, I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone at this point.  I am going to give it another try probably sometime this week, and I’ll keep you updated.  But right now, this product is a no-go.  I should have just invested in the Caruso rollers!

Product Review: Salon Care Satin-covered Foam Rollers

I’ve vowed to myself that I wouldn’t put so much heat in my hair this summer… I really need want the growth.  My haircare regimen is pretty simple thus far:

  • wash once a week
  • deep condition twice a week
  • air-dry
  • blowdry on warm
  • style in a twist-out or curls

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve  been wearing curls.  I normally use small green foam rollers but I’ve  always wanted voluminous curls.  During my weekly splurge-fest at Sally’s, I was looking for the large foam rollers and I couldn’t find them anywhere… so I ran across something better… satin-covered foam rollers!

My friend during college had been warning me that the foam rollers could break my hair, and that I should cover them with something.  I never listened of course, and that’s why I was so excited to find these!  So far, they work great.  They keep the moisture in your hair and smooth the hair cuticle.  Only one problem about these: the satin covering slides off.  Not easily, but something about this bothers me.  Overall, it’s a great product!  I’ll definitely keep using this one throughout the summer!

And look at my curls!
